Invest a lot of money on incentive compensation, right? Is it really an incentive plan or a year-end bonus plan? Does it (or they) drive any behavior at all? A well-designed incentive plan, at most, highly motivates participants to do the things necessary to achieve the metrics which fund their awards, and at least, sends strong messages to employees or participants about what is important for your company at that point in time.
